Our final portfolio project will involve the deep analysis of a memoir. Each student will choose one memoir to focus on. There are three critical components to this assignment: a written letter to an author, a collage or painting that illustrates the meaning of the memoir of choice and a 10 minute oral presentation given to 4th and 5th graders and parents based on the analysis that has been done.
Did you notice or wonder about your child's oral presentation skills during our memoir evening? The truth is that our memoir evening was probably the first time your child experienced standing in front of such a large crowd of adults, speaking clearly about a topic that has been studied. It is natural for students to shuffle feet, avoid eye contact, or speak facing the wall rather than the audience.
During our preparation for this final project, we will spend a significant amount of time thinking about what it takes to speak well and confidently in front of an audience. This will be excellent preparation for the academic exhibitions that these students are about to delve into in the seventh grade!
