Memoir Celebration- Final Details- Please Read Carefully!

Dear 6th Grade Parents,

Tomorrow evening is our memoir celebration! The evening will begin at 7 pm in the sixth grade classroom. The format that we will follow will look something like this:

7-7:30pm: Read Memoirs/Potluck Dinner
During this first half hour of the evening, be sure to take the time to read through your child’s memoir and talk with your child about what you appreciate. Our presentations will not entail reading entire memoirs, but a short summary of their projects. After you have read your child’s memoir, you will be invited into the 8th grade room for a potluck dinner.
This is what your child has signed up to bring, let me know if you have a different idea! If there is a question mark by your child’s name, they are hoping to discuss what kind of food you would like to bring with you tonight.

If you are wondering about portion size- bring enough for what would feed your family!

7:30-7:50pm: Student Presentations
At 7:30, we will gather back in the sixth grade room to hear student presentations. Each student will take just one or two minutes to introduce themselves and their topic and explain the significance of their topic. They will then read an excerpt from their memoirs.

7:50 pm:
You will be invited to enjoy dessert and head out to the park to play a game of kickball!

We have been working so hard to prepare for this evening and are so looking forward to having you come. This has been a tough assignment for the sixth grade- it can be hard to think deeply about yourself when you are still trying to figure out who you are. I have been so touched by the self-reflection that each sixth grader has shown and the perseverance I have seen throughout this writing assignment. While the end results may not be perfect, your child has worked hard to get to where he or she is. Please remember that tomorrow night is a night to honor and celebrate your children, who they are and who they hope to become in the future. You may find that you have learned something new about your child by the end of our evening!
